Help Shape History: Join the Murray County Historical Society’s Collections Committee
Did you know that there’s a dedicated committee that helps decide what artifacts are accepted into the Murray County Museum’s collection? Behind every exhibit, photo, or heirloom on display is a thoughtful process led by our Collections Committee — a group of individuals who work to ensure the artifacts we preserve truly represent the story of Murray County.
What the Collections Committee Does
The Collections Committee plays an essential role in shaping and protecting the museum’s collection. Their main responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and approving (or disapproving) items offered for donation to the museum.
- Evaluating any artifacts that may be considered for deaccession, or removal, from the collection.
- Advising museum staff on policies, guidelines, and criteria for accepting new artifacts.
The committee is made up of Historical Society board members, society members, and members of the public who share a passion for preserving local history.
We’re Looking for New Committee Members
Right now, the Murray County Historical Society is seeking new members to join the Collections Committee.
If you’ve ever wanted to get involved with the museum or play a hands-on role in preserving local history, this is a wonderful opportunity. The time commitment is minimal — the committee meets just a few times a year — but the impact is significant.
By volunteering on the Collections Committee, you’ll be directly helping to protect and preserve the artifacts and stories that make Murray County unique.
