There is exciting news from the Fulda Heritage Society — a major preservation project at the historic Fulda Depot has been completed!
Fulda Depot Foundation Project Complete
The major foundation project at the Fulda Depot was completed in June.
Rotting foundation beams beneath the 1880 two-story depot had jeopardized the stability of the historic building and ultimately caused it to be closed to the public.
Final details of the project were completed this spring and included site grading, replacement of pavers on the south side of the Depot and construction of an ADA-compliant ramp.
With that work complete, the Fulda Heritage Society was excited to once again welcome visitors inside the historic Depot.
Welcoming the Community Back
The Depot reopened to visitors on Saturday, June 20, during Fulda’s annual Wood Duck Festival.
It also served as the gathering point for the annual Memorial Tractor Ride, where community members met with their classic tractors before heading out on a drive through Fulda and the surrounding countryside.
After the ride, participants returned for a community meal hosted by the Fulda Heritage Society across the street.
Throughout the day, visitors were able to tour the main floor of the Depot and view a special display featuring photographs and milestone reports documenting the foundation project.
After the extensive work required to stabilize and preserve the building, it was especially meaningful to once again see people gathering inside this important piece of Fulda history.

The Fulda Heritage Society meets on the first Thursday of each month throughout the year at 7:00 p.m. at the Fulda Senior Center.
Anyone interested in Fulda’s history or helping preserve it for future generations is invited to attend.
